I am still unclear about how "downscaling" with Kodi playing 4k videos on a 1080p display actually works. Not gonna waste time, disc space and $$ ripping 4k discs, if the result in the main home theater is worse than a regular BD rip.

While having the 4k in the bedroom is nice.my primary concern is still with the main home theater, so do not want to be watching a "degrated" image. I suppose I should also rip the regular BD and do a comparison or maybe just compare to the actual BD in the BD player. The one thing I am not sure about is when I play the file in my 1080p theater (Odroid C2 running Kodi) is the "downscaled" image equivalent to what it would have been if it was a rip from the regular BD for the movie. Yesterday, I got the 4k BD for John Wick 2 and ripped it 1-1.came out at around 70gb. I recently got a 4k/HDR tv for my bedroom so now I am thinking about getting 4k discs going forward so I can watch them in 4k in the bedroom if I want. Click to expand. My main theater is still 1080p (Sony 40es projector).and I have been using Makemkv to rip all my blurays(currently at around 200 or so).
